I’m price-shopping for a HDTV set. Is NOW a good time?
I am seriously shopping for an High Definition / Wide screen Television set.

I notice in many retail outlets an overall price drop from the Christmas shopping seasons’ $ 1,500 price range to a measly $ 350 for the exact same TV (same brand / type.) Is this as LOW as I can expect this price to drop for this high-tech device?
Can I get a more reduced price at a later time?

The price is governed by the manufacturer. If the dealer is selling it for less than the manufacturer allows then they are not part of the system and your factory warranty will not be honored. For ex sample the Panasonic G model are exclusive only to Best Buy, if you buy them from some else you are not going to get the warranty honored by the manufacturer. Also you have to register the product you purchase to the manufacturer. At times manufacturer will offer a rebate to the dealers which you do not see as a consumer, which brings the price down. This is usually down when the manufacturer is over stocked of a certain model. Buying online also adds shipping cost and if you have a problem you are responsible for the shipping cost to send it back. I always buy electronics that I can touch and demo before buying at a local retail store. You are not going to see that much more discount than they are currently showing. The new 2010 models are now out. I just purchased a receiver from Fry’s Electronic an Onkyo top of the line model 5007 which was replaced by the 5008 and it was a display model. The retail price is $ 2500 and I paid $ 1,050. You just have to look around and shop. Hope this will help you out.
