How do I buy a dvd player that is compatible with the (somewhat old) tv I have now?

I have a 13 inch TV the brand is Sharp. It is box-y and isn’t flatscreen or anything. I want to figure out what kind of dvd player to get so it works with my old tv… I don’t want to buy a dvd player and then find out that it is too high tech to work with my old tv. Thanks!

All DVD players should work.

DVD players are compatible with all televisions. Any DVD player will work with your TV.

It is not true that all DVD players will work with your TV.

Sure the signal is something that your TV will understand, but without the proper connections that means nothing.

What you need to do is look on the back of the TV and see what inputs you have.

If you only have one input, a 75ohm coaxial (threaded input like for cable TV) then your dvd player cannot connect.

If you have at least one audio jack and one RCA video input on that TV (the video jack is usually yellow) then you are ok. One input sound and one video input and you are good.

Now, let’s say you have an older TV with only the threaded cable TV type connection you are not totally out of luck

A visit to radioshack will solve this. Tell them what you are trying to do, and that you need an RF converter box. This changes the 75 ohm coaxial cable from a radio frequency (RF) to a standard video signal.

While not every DVD can connect to every old TV, someone somewhere will have a device to adapt to your TV.

Hope this answers your question.
